My setup for priming and painting of the main tube is very simple.
Like I did for all of my previous telescope builds, I primed and
painted their tubes supported horizontally through 1.5" PVC, or in
this case, 3.5" OD cardboard tube suspended from two (2) chains; both
of which are approximately 6' foot long. Also, I have placed spacers
on the top surface area of the tubes that will support the ends of the
tube being primed or painted. You can see evidence of this by the gap
created between the main tube and the support tube. This will prevent
the main tube from making contact with the support tube during the
finishing process. Plus, it will aid in making it easier to rotate the
main tube. To help to a degree, I also hung a tarp behind the setup to
capture most of the overspray.
Before I apply my
first coats of primer, check out how well the Scotch-Brite green
scouring pad hand-buffed the matte finish onto the main tube's
exterior. Next, I will need to plug up the holes (with the epoxied
nuts) for the guide scope and counterweight system so they do not get
clogged with primer and paint. |
