Jaegers 6" f/10 "GJD" OTA Construction - OTA Assembly (installation of OTA handles - 1)

Traversing back to the business end of the soon-to-be OTA for the Jaegers 6" f/10 "GJD" telescope, I next installed the OTA handles. One (1) on each side of the main tube in front of the focuser.

After punching holes in the ProtoStar FlockBoard where the holes are located for mounting the OTA handles, I used four (4) 10-32 size bolts, nuts and washers to secure them in place. I was also very careful not to over tighten, because even though the handle supports are solid oak, they still can split under extreme conditions. The bolts, nuts and washers will also hold the flocking material in place. Another purpose of the nuts is that they will help distribute the stresses of the bolts when they are tightened down; thereby drastically reducing the amount of disfiguration of the main tube at those points. As for the baffle rack shifting, it is dependent on the snug fit between it and the FlockBoard to keep it locked in place.
