As the 45th anniversary of the VSC arrives in three (3) day from the
time I am writing this caption, I think back to those early days, and
look at the present to see the grand accomplishments we have made.
Looking forward, I also give thought to the upcoming projects and new
adventures we plan to work on with great anticipation and vision.
I must say that constructing the "GJD" refractor has been a bitter
sweet endeavor, to say the least. Loosing Gelinda was devastating (the
bitter). But, knowing how much she means to me, and the heart I poured
into this build in her honor has definitely been a source of solace
and healing (the sweet).
With that, the Jaegers 6" f/10
"Gelinda J. Dawson refractor OTA has culminated my best build effort
to date as an ATM'er. In the photo above, it lies on my sofa with the
cradle rings and dovetail plate attached, along with its home-made
dust cover protecting the objective. The next few pages will show the
"GJD" in a number of poses as it sits atop my Losmandy G11 equatorial
mount.
Thanks to everyone who played a row in the creation of
this grand instrument. |
