When the faceplates for
the North Star II field tripod have been installed, if we do not do
this step of the operation, the legs will not be able to slide
between the "outside main leg support". By removing about a
millimeter or two of surface material from one grain facing side of
each of the "adjustable center legs", it will easily allow the them
to be extended and retracted to adjust the height of the tripod. The
grain orientation factor for the North Star II's legs are much like
that of a baseball bat, which the sweet spot always faces the grain
denoting its strongest orientation and face. The same applies with
the legs for the North Star II. By facing the grain in the
orientation of the strongest direction, in this case with the grain
facing out, you get better strength and stability.
This completes the
assembly of the legs for the North Star II field tripod. Finally the
spar varnishing of them will begin.
