With all surfaces sanded, and all edges slightly rounded over (except for the center hole reserved for the EQ) using an orbital sander with a 220-grit sanding disk, the Pan-Head is almost ready for several coats of spar varnish. But, before applying the finish, a vertical 5/16” inch hole must be drilled through the center of the Pan-Head for receipt of the CG-5 equatorial mount head. Additionally, horizontal holes must be drilled through each of the three fingers for attachment of the legs. Despite being fairly hefty in appearance, the Pan-Head is rather lightweight. Yet, it is very strong, and rigid.
