During the construction of the "GJD" refractor, I was thinking ahead
and decided to purchase a "D-Series" dovetail plate for the scope. In
searching eBay, I ran across a really nice inexpensive 12" black
dovetail plate that was being sold by a seller called "dodgeman7"
(a.k.a., KF4TOH/ Joe Kane). I purchased one, and upon receipt, I
discovered that dovetail plate was too small for the Jaegers "GJD"!
I contacted Joe to see if he could have him fabricate a dovetail plate
of my own design and color, and he replied yes. The "D-Series"
dovetail plate I designed was 16" long and 5" wide. I even had him
drill holes for mounting the future cradle rings, but that was a big
mistake. When I found a set of aged cradle rings that originally came
from an Optica B/C 6" reflector that was reasonably priced, I jumped
on them. When they arrived, I knew the holes in the base of the rings
were not going to match those in the dovetail plate, so I came up with
a viable solution without having to ruin its beautiful powder coat
finish. The solution was 'adapter plates' of my own design. Joe was so
understanding and kind that he made them for me free of charge, and
they turned out great, as you will see next. |
