North Star II Field Tripod Construction - Fabrication of the Faceplates 8

All faceplated for the North Star II field tripod ready for painting... (Click for enlarged view)

Grouped in the picture above we have all of the faceplates for the NS II field tripod ready for painting. All pieces have been chamfered, drilled and sanded smooth. I also beveled the holes to allow the bevel of the oval-head screws to seat better once the tripod is assembled. As for the large holes in the large faceplates, they were already in the scrap aluminum. They serve no purpose (at least not at this point. ;) )

To achieve that textured finish much like a lot of the equipment being manufactured today (i.e., EQ heads, Cradle Rings, and the like), I will be using RustoleumŽ black hammered finish paint. This stuff is durable and does not require you to prime or remove the rust from the surface to be painted.
