North Star II Field Tripod Construction - Tripod Final Assembly 5

Facilitating the azimuth adjustment bolt.... (Click for enlarged view)

With the North Star II Field tripod completed, it was time to set it up to receive my CG-5 equatorial mount. Basically, everything was good to go to install the mount, but I wanted to also instill azimuth fine adjustment capability found on many other premium EQ mount heads. To make this work for the NS II, I used a carriage bolt to do the trick. To establish where I needed to mount the carriage bolt into the pan-head, I load the carriage bolt precisely between the adjustment screws of the azimuth adjusters and made some measurements which I transposed to the pan-head. Also the height of the screw was carefully consider so that once the EQ was mounted to the pan-head, it would be at the perfect height. Worked beautifully!
