Earlier in the build of the Jaegers 6" f/10 "Gelinda J. Dawson"
refractor, the dew shield was cut to length and then holes drilled for
mounting it to the rear objective cell. It was then put aside while I
handled other aspects of the refractor's construction. Now, with those
tasks completed, it was time to revisit the dew shield with prepping
it to be flocked. The process begins with the selection of four (4)
progressively finer grits of sanding media to prepare its surfaces for
priming, flocking and painting. To start off, I will sand the internal
and external surfaces with 60-grit, and then for internal surface
only, I will sand with 100-grit, followed by 220-grit and ending with
600-grit. The following pages will show the results of each grit.
After sanding and cleanup, priming, flocking and painting will be
done.
NOTE --- I used only the 60-grit sand paper on the
interior of the dew shield. This was done because it created a rough
surface so that the spray-on flocking products would adhere better,
which will be performed after sanding. |
