Sanding of the dew shield begins with the yellow 60-grit sanding pad
you see in the picture above. This grit removed most of the
manufacturing markings and thin oxidized coat. As you can see, quite a
bit of aluminum residue was generated in the sanding process. The pad
is typically used in a random orbital sander, but this time, as with
the remaining grits, I will be doing all of the sanding by hand. This
way I have better control resulting in a improved overall finish once
the spray-on coatings are applied.
In sanding the inside and
outside surfaces of the dew shield with the 60-grit pad, the surfaces
took on an appearance that is reminiscent of 0000 steel wool. So more
sanding at finer grits is needed... |
