But before I do anything else to the dew shield, I will thoroughly
clean off the aluminum residue left over from sanding using a Scott's
shop towel saturated with mineral spirits (inside and out). Some folks
use acetone, but mineral spirits/ paint thinner appears to be just a
good at removing the aluminum dust and oils, as you can clearly see
from the towel in the shot above. I believe the mineral spirits may be
a safer product to use than the acetone. I heard that acetone can be
quite hard on the hands, plus it evaporates quickly; a quality that
makes it a great product for cleaning optics when combined with
denatured alcohol. |
