Jaegers 6" f/10 "GJD" OTA Construction - Knife-Edge Baffles (v-groove bit installed)

Laminate trimmer fitted with a v-groove bit to make the knife-edge in each baffle - 13 (Click to see an enlarged image.)

Installed in the Bosch laminate trimmer/ router is the router bit I will be using to cut the knife-edges into the baffle disks. It is a carbide tipped v-groove cutting router bit that has a maximum cutting width of 9/16" and a groove cutting depth of 9/32" before the flat side edges come into play. The maximum depth cut is perfect in that it will cut through a 1/4" thick piece of polycarbonate creating a 45-degree beveled wall before the flat sides of the bit ever makes contact with the top surface of the polycarbonate (see cross-section diagram here). Using this method will create an accurate and sharp knife-edge in each of the four (4) baffles; thereby creating a high contrast producing environment within the OTA during observing.

Next, I will install a Jasper circle guide that cuts smaller circles than the previous one. Great for cutting circles from 1" to 7.5" diameter, perfect for this application.
