Jaegers 6" f/10 "GJD" OTA Construction - Knife-Edge Baffles (cutting knife-edge in 1st baffle)

After adding a small Jasper circle cutting jig, the knife-edge was cut - 14 (Click to see an enlarged image.)

The first knife-edge has been cut! But initially before using the router to cut the knife-edge in the baffle disk with the v-groove bit, I selected the appropriate whole in the Jasper circle guide to set the center pin onto so that the distance between the center of the 1/8" pin, and the tip of the v-groove bit amounted to the radius of the opening for the specific baffle. In this case, being the first baffle, the radius was calculated to be 1.2", making the clear aperture diameter of the knife-edge opening machined in the baffle disk 2.4". I also made certain that just the very tip of the v-groove bit would cut through the other side of the 1/4" thick baffle disk, which would allow for removal of the center core left after making the cut, but not to make the opening too large, overshooting the specs.

Again, I know it sounds like a lot, but believe me, it is truly a breeze to make these baffles. I just want to provide as much detail as possible to help the reader formulate a clear mental picture of the process.

SPECIAL NOTE !!! --- During the milling of the knife-edges in each baffle, you will notice that the debris from the routing process will periodically buildup around the v-groove bit. When this happens, unplug the laminate trimmer or router and make certain that the buildup has cooled sufficient. Then remove the debris carefully. In some cases you may have to remove the bit from the router to accomplish this task.
